Hi Ryan, This and your previous article are very interesting. Under the Flooding section at the beginning, you mention extreme rainfall and the increased chance of flooding everywhere in southern Québec. Certainly overland flash flooding has occurred in the village of Wakefield even outside the flood zones for the Gatineau and La Pêche rivers. These events were very disruptive (cancelled school buses, businesses and homes flooded out, roads closed due to impassability, etc.). Do you have anything further to say on this aspect? I am really looking forward to seeing the Commission's report too. Thanks, Jill
I think you're right to point out how disruptive flooding can be even outside flood zones and not just alongside the two main rivers in the area. I don't have too much more to say about it other than noting the likelihood of such flooding seems tied to the expected increases in heavy rainfall events. Luckily, the expected increase in heavy rainfall doesn't seem *that* extensive (in a moderately warmer climate) - we're talking about a handful additional extreme rainfall events later this Century than we would have had without climate change... at least that's what the models suggest! Maybe it would be prudent though to note to the Municipality that they can expect an increase in the cost of road repairs and emergency road closures. Thanks for your engagement Jill!
